Could TikTok be banned permanently from your iPhone??? Well as someone who fell in love with the app throughout the pandemic I hope not! but the FCC has officially asked Google and Apple to remove TikTok from their app stores, because of its pattern of surreptitious data practices. The FCC Commissioner has recently claimed that TikTok staff in china have had access to users’ data. Despite statements made by TikTok suggesting otherwise. This is not the first time that claims such as these have surfaced about the app and its privacy concerns. TikTok has historically responded to data and privacy concerns by promising that the data of the users in the US are stored in the US and not in China. Which is where the company that owns TikTok bite dance is located.

However recent reports claim that TikTok staff in China has had access to user data up until January of 2022. The claim contradicts testimony that was given by a TikTok Executive under sworn oath in an October 2021 senate hearing that the world-renowned US-based security team decides who gets access to US users’ data. TikTok responded to this report by announcing that all data for US users will be moved to oracle servers in the U.S. TikTok also will eventually delete US users’ data from its other servers in Singapore, and then fully pivot to oracle cloud servers in the US.
For those of you who might not remember, this isn’t the first time. a ban was even brought up in a proposal for Tiktok as the former President sought to ban the app back in 2020, with a few executive orders that have since been reversed under the current administration. With the recent request from the fcc commissioner, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not the current administration decides to investigate the app and its privacy concerns even further, maybe a ban might be on the way, who knows! but of course, I would love to hear your thoughts on all of this in the comments down below are you someone who Tiktok regularly?
