iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro – The 10 MAJOR Differences!

by Dewi Safitri

The iPhone 14 has finally been announced! and if you’re trying to decide between the iPhone 14s and the iPhone 14 pros, here are 10 major differences to help you make up your mind!

  1.  Dynamic Island

Source : https://www.apple.com/iphone-14-pro/

This is the biggest difference between the iPhone 14s and the iPhone 14 Pros. The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 plus only have the notch, so same as before. But for the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, they have that pill this whole cutout. But it now works awesomely software-wise, and this is what the dynamic island is. It’s essentially an area, that automatically adapts based on what you’re doing. So you can see your uber delivery you can see your phone calls, you can see your voice recordings, and just a ton of status updates. Think of this sort of like a secondary status bar, which is smarter and way more fun to use. It looks great and it seems to be very fluid. Honestly, this is one of my favorite features, if not my favorite feature of the new iPhone 14 Pros.

  1. Camera Hardware

There are a ton of differences here! The iPhone 14 Pros get a brand new 48-megapixel sensor with pixel binning, compared to a 12-megapixel sensor which is the same one, as the iPhone 13 Pros. Apple claims that the iPhone 14 Pros have twice the low light performance compared to the 13 pros and therefore, the iPhone 14 models as well. Not only that, but the ultrawide module is also three times better in low light. So that’s a huge upgrade! On top of that, we also have a telephoto module which the iPhone 14s does not have at all

You get 3x optical zoom and a brand new 2x digital zoom, which is essentially sensor cropping on that 48-megapixel sensor. The quality of that seems to be good, thanks to the impressive level of resolution that we have on the iPhone Pro models. The flash is also twice as bright on the Pro models. Then you also have that lighter module which allows you to scan objects in 3d, and improves the AR experience.

  1. Camera Features

So the Pro models offer a macro mode which surprisingly, the non-pros do not have at all. and then you can also do night mode portraits, thanks to that lighter sensor. You can also shoot photos in raw, thanks to Apple’s Prora. and you can also shoot them at up to 48-megapixel resolution, normal photos are taken at 12 by the way bins. But then you can use 48 when you’re shooting in raw. You can also shoot Prores 4k30, on the Pro models compared to no Prores at all. It is awesome you get extra quality out of that! Major Warning: They do take a ton of space, and because of the slow speeds of lightning I never really used it because it takes forever to transfer.

  1. Display Brightness

Source : https://www.apple.com/iphone-14-pro/

When you’re normally using the phones, the iPhone 14s has 800 nits of maximum brightness compared to 1000 nits on the iPhone 14 Pros. This is a manual brightness and automatic brightness indoors. Now when you’re watching HDR content the iPhone 14s can do up to 1200 nits, while the iPhone 14 Pros can do up to 1600 nits. This matches the displays on the new retina XDR display inside the new MacBook Pros, 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and Apple’s Pro Display XDR, so that’s impressive! On top of that, the iPhone 14 Pro models also have an Outdoor Display mode. Which automatically increases the brightness to 2000 nits, compared to 800 nits on the non-Pro models. Now obviously this is a gigantic difference and this is the brightest display on any smartphone out right now! If you use your phones outdoors in direct sunlight a lot, then the Pro models will be more than twice as bright as the regular ones.

  1. Always-On Display Functionality

This special feature is only for the Pro models. When your phone goes to sleep, the lock screen will still be visible. It will be dimmed, rather than being an entirely different screen like on Android phones. and it will also be displayed in colors rather than black and white. You’ll be able to see widgets, and live activities, those will always be visible. Although Apple hasn’t said anything about whether notifications will be visible or not. This is one of those features that I’ve been waiting for! So I’m excited that we finally have it. Sadly, only on the Pro models.

  1. ProMotion on the Pro Models

Source : https://www.apple.com/iphone-14-pro/

This has been the case with the iPhone 13s as well, where the display is twice as fluid. On top of this year, the refresh rate can go down to 1 Hertz instead of 10 Hertz, which is what we had on the iPhone 13 Pros. Honestly, I would say that this is the biggest difference that you guys will notice between the two models. Just using the phones, in general, feels so much smoother with promotion compared to without

  1. Performance

Source : https://www.apple.com/iphone-14-pro/

The iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus still come with the Apple A15 chips same as last year. However this time they come with uh the 5 GPU core model, that was included in the iPhone 13 pros. You do get a tiny bit of extra speed bump thanks to this GPU-wise. We didn’t have any leaks on this, but this was what I believe to be the case and I’m happy that Apple has done this in the end. Inside the iPhone 14 Pros, we have the true Apple A16 chip. It now uses a smaller four-nanometer manufacturing process compared to five. We also have um a bit higher performance in the high-performance cores. They’re also 20 more power efficient, and the GPU has 50 more bandwidth. But that’s pretty much it! The performance increase from the A15 to A16 is really small, as Apple hasn’t given us any exact numbers. Some geekbench scores have been leaked, and they do show very minimal gains.

  1. Battery Life.

The iPhone Pro models do offer better battery life than the iPhone non-Pros. The regular 14 offers 20 hours of video playback, compared to 23 on the iPhone 14 Pros, the iPhone 14 Plus offers 26, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max offers 29.

  1. Design and Build Quality

Source : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyI1BAB8CTg

I have to mention here that the Pro models are significantly heavier, because of that stainless steel frame compared to the aluminum frame that the non-Pro models use. The iPhone 14 Pro is 34 grams heavier than the iPhone 14, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max is 37 grams heavier than the iPhone 14 Plus. The 14 Pro is 3 grams heavier than the iPhone 14 Plus. So if you just want to have a lighter phone, then definitely do go with the standard models. Couple more differences in terms of the colors! We have a new Space Black and a Darker Purple, which are only available on the Pro models. Then on the non Pros, we have a new Lighter Purple, a New Blue, and it seems like we also have a new shade of Red which again are only available on the regular models.

  1. The Price

Source : https://www.apple.com/iphone-14-pro/

In the US, the prices are the same as before, starting from $799 up to $1099 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. However in the UK and other places the prices have increased quite considerably. The iPhone 14 costs £849 up from £779, the iPhone 14 Plus is £9.49, the iPhone 14 Pro is £1099 up from £949 and the iPhone 14 Pro Max is £1199 from £1049. That is a huge increase, and contrary to what the leaks and rumors were saying. We do not get 256 gigabytes of storage as the base models on the Pro model. So if you need more storage in pretty much all cases you will need 256, you will need to upgrade and pay even more for the Pro models.

These are the main differences between the latest iPhone series, now on top of that, there are a ton of new features on both the front-facing camera received some major updates, we have satellite sos and so much more. Feel free to leave your comment down below and see you on the next update!
