Apple is rolling out a new policy for the sixth-generation iPadmini that allows customers to replace the battery without getting a replacement device.
Currently, Apple Stores, Authorized Service Providers and Repair Centers will replace the device for iPad owners who want to replace the battery, rather than simply replacing the battery in the original iPad. Starting today, at repair centers, if eligible, iPad mini 6 owners will be able to replace just the battery without having to replace their entire device.
Apple’s new policy only applies to the sixth-generation iPad mini, but other iPads may follow in the coming weeks and months. Depending on individual circumstances, the new policy may be detrimental to some customers. Previously, customers were given a replacement device when they serviced the battery, so any dents, cracks or scratches were dealt with.
The new policy means that owners of iPad mini6 will only have the battery replaced, and no other minor defects or damage to their device. As of now, this new policy is only enforced at repair centers worldwide, not at Apple Retail Stores or Authorized Service Providers.
