“Smart Island” is one of the best features of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but if you have the smaller of the two, you may have noticed a problem – putting anything on the Smart Island means no You can see your phone signal strength again.
Apple has made a useful little improvement for iPhone 14 Pro users in the latest iOS 16.2 beta. In earlier versions, the iPhone 14 Pro would only show two status icons (Battery and Wi-Fi or Single) because the range of the Smart Island to boot was a bit wide.
However, this is no longer the case. Now, when music is playing, the width of the Smart Island compresses to allow all three status icons to be seen – complete with a smooth animation.

Depending on the instant activity, the iPhone 14 Pro can display two or three icons. Activities with more content naturally take up more space and induce truncation of status icons.
A truncated state is suboptimal. It doesn’t show up right away, and the Living Island is why the status icon is hidden. You sometimes accidentally think that you have completely lost your cell phone signal because the signal icon disappears.
But with the improvements in the iOS 16.2 beta, one of the activities users see most often, music playing now, will no longer be the reason for that.
In keeping with the smooth vibrancy that users have come to expect from the Smart Island, this iOS 16.2 behavior also features very smooth animations. After closing the music application, the smart island first occupies a larger width, and then gradually shrinks. The animations of the individual bars are coordinated in appearance.
